2016: A Year of Success in Music

For a lot of us, 2016 has been a hard year. But if there was thing we could depend on in 2016, it was the music. Myriad artists ranging from Drake to Lady Gaga to Daya all released new albums this year and gave us fresh music we love. Here are eight great albums we got from the year 2016.

8. Death of a Bachelor

Panic! at the Disco released this album on January 15th of this year and is full of alternative pop hits. Death of a Bachelor was number one on the US Billboard 200 and it is currently nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.

7. Anti

Rihanna released her album on January 27th of this year as her eighth studio album. Anti peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200. After two days of its release, the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Work, one of Rihanna’s top singles from the album, became number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 giving Rihanna her fourteenth number one song on the chart.

6. This is Acting

Sia released her seventh studio album This is Acting on January 29th of this year. The album gave us the song Cheap Thrills which became her first number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. A deluxe edition of the album was released on October 21st featuring seven new tracks including The Greatest which was a tribute to the 49 victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting.

5. Lemonade

Beyoncé released Lemonade on April 23rd of this year. Lemonade was number one on the US Billboard 200, selling 485,000 copies in its first week and becoming her sixth number one album in the United States. The album got 9 Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Music Film.

4. Home of the Strange

Young the Giant released Home of the Strange on August 12 of this year which was their third studio album. It was full of alternative and indie rock music that was fresh and new. Something to Believe In was the first radio single from the album and was its most popular song ranking high on the US alternative charts.

3. Wild World

Bastille released their second studio album Wild World on September 9th of this year. Following the lead single Good Grief, Bastille revealed the names of album’s tracks on Snapchat via geofilters placed at significant sites around the globe. The album peaked at 4 on the US Billboard 200.

2. Oh My My

OneRepublic released Oh My My on October 7th of this year. This was the fourth studio album for the band and took eighteen months to record which is the longest the group has worked on a single project. The album peaked at number 3 on the US Billboard 200 and their hit single Wherever I Go hit peaked at 55 on the Billboard Hot 100.

1. Joanne

Lady Gaga released Joanne on October 21st of this year as her fifth studio album. It ranked number one on the US Billboard 200 and the US Top Tastemaker Albums. The album had two hit singles: Perfect Illusion and Million Reasons.
